Can you believe we’ve officially reached the halfway point of the year?
June arrives with a shift in energy. The days are longer, the sun is brighter, and there’s a natural call to pause, reflect, and celebrate. At Lamaste Yoga, we look at the mid-year mark not just as a calendar flip, but as a beautiful opportunity to check in with ourselves. How is your breath? How is your heart? Wherever you are on your journey so far this year, **you are exactly where you need to be.**

This month, our reflection turns outward as we celebrate **Pride Month**. Yoga teaches us *Ahimsa* (non-harming) and *Satya* (truth)—living authentically and creating spaces where everyone feels safe to do the same. This June, we stand in solidarity, love, and active support with the LGBTQIA+ community. To honor the spirit of connection, family (both born and chosen), and community, we’ve gathered five yoga poses that embody support, heart-opening, and togetherness.

5 Poses to Support Family & Communities Whether you practice these in class, at home with loved ones, or simply visualize your community supporting you while on your mat, these shapes ground us in unity.

1. Partner Tree Pose (Vrksasana)
Tree pose is all about finding balance and root stability. When done side-by-side with a partner, family member, or friend, it transforms into a beautiful symbol of interdependence.
 * How to do it:* Stand side-by-side, wrapping your inner arms around each other’s waists for support. Root down through your outside legs, and place your inside feet on your calves or thighs. Bring your outside hands together to touch in the center.
*The Meaning:* It reminds us that while we must find our own balance, leaning on others makes us stronger against the wind.

2. Supported Bound Angle Pose (Supta Baddha Konasana)
A deeply restorative posture that opens the chest and heart space, allowing us to practice vulnerability in a safe environment.
*How to do it:* Sit on the floor, bring the soles of your feet together, and let your knees fall open. Lie back onto a bolster or a stack of pillows, letting your arms rest open at your sides, palms facing up.
*The Meaning:* Opening the heart allows us to receive love from our community and offers a safe space to process our emotions.

3. Warrior II (Virabhadrasana II)
A fierce, grounding posture that builds collective strength and focus.
*How to do it:* Step your feet wide apart, turn your right toes out 90 degrees, and bend your right knee. Extend your arms wide, parallel to the floor, gazing out over your right fingertips.
*The Meaning:* When practiced in a group, looking across the room at your fellow yogis builds a shared sense of resilience. We are all warriors for justice, equality, and love.

4. Continuous Child’s Pose (Balasana Circle)
Child’s pose is the ultimate posture of surrender and safety. Organizing this in a circle with family or community members amplifies its calming energy.
*How to do it:* Kneel on the floor, touch your big toes together, and sit back on your heels. Separate your knees hip-width apart and lay your torso down. If practicing with others, arrange your mats in a circle facing inward, allowing your outstretched hands to gently connect or sit near one another.
*The Meaning:* A reminder that we all share the same earth and can always return to a place of collective peace and humility.

5. Double Downward-Facing Dog (Adho Mukha Svanasana)
An advanced, playful partner pose that requires clear communication, trust, and mutual effort.
*How to do it:* Person A moves into a standard Downward Dog. Person B places their hands about a foot in front of Person A’s hands, then carefully steps their feet up onto Person A’s lower back/sacrum, pressing into a Downward Dog of their own.
*The Meaning:* This pose represents literally "having someone's back." It builds absolute trust and showcases how we can elevate one another when we work together.
