This week, our team put together a list of some yoga poses to promote better sleep. Sometimes life can be a little extra stressful or even inconsistent due to travel, work, or family. Below are our top yoga poses to help with better sleep.

1. Child’s Pose

This pose can be done anywhere in your home and begins by coming to a seat on the heels, separating the knees, and folding forwards, while placing your arms by your side with the palms by the heels. This combined with deep breaths can help to calm the mind before heading to sleep.

2. Bridge Pose

Begin by laying on your back and bending your knees with your heels near your sitz bones. Place a pillow, bolster, or block underneath the base of the spine as you raises your hips toward the ceiling for further support. This pose will help to calm the heart and bring awareness back to breath as you prepare for sleep.

3. Supine Twist

By laying on the back and bending the knees toward the chest, you can face the side and allow the knees to fall toward one side. You can place your arms on either side of the body, or place the opposite arm on top of the top knee for a deeper stretch, while lengthening the bottom leg. Taking deep and long breaths on both sides will stimulate the spine and help you wind down before bedtime.

Taking just 5-10 minutes to restore in these postures before bed, will assist with calming the mind and grounding the body before sleeping. Let us know if you try any of these out.
