Meditation Exercises for Kids
Plant Tracing
A great way to introduce meditation to your children is through drawing. Drawing stimulates similar mental calmness as traditional meditation practices. We recommend leaf or plant tracing on paper outdoors in a calm environment. Practicing for just a few minutes a day can help children to express their creativity while maintaining a calm and steady mindset.
Hummingbird Melodies
This meditation practice is great for the children to help maintain their focus. It can be practiced by the children sitting in a seated position, closing their eyes, and humming like a hummingbird. You can play with different types of breaths in between, as well as different tones of vocal humming to keep their interest. This can be a really fun practice for them, especially in groups, where you can create a hummingbird chorus.
Visual Storytelling
This may be the easiest activity for children to partake in if they are new to meditation. They can lie on the floor or find a cozy position to close their eyes, while you guide them through a visualization or story. This is similar to reading a book without pictures and can help them to stimulate imagination and creativity, while remaining calm and collected in the mind.
